Sunday 1st August the “Cycle for smead” event took place. This was one of many events organised by team LeMead to help raise money for leukaemia charities, blood cancer charities and in particular the Geoff Thomas Foundation charity.
The event was a 50 mile bicycle ride around some of the scenic sights of Bedfordshire. The event started and finished at The Rufus Centre in Flitwick, Bedfordshire.
Matt Crouch, principle organiser for LeMead, said, “The day was brilliant we have raised £1500 on the day and there is still plenty of time to donate more”.
Next event on the LeMead calendar is the cycle up the Stelvio Pass, Italy in September.
Ian Chilvers, Operations Director, said “I am very proud to sponsor LeMead this year and support such a worthwhile cause. Matt has the energy and commitment for the next challenge in Stelvio and I wish them all the very best of luck. I know I’d rather cycle down it, than up it.”
Background
Team “Le Mead” was named after a very courageous and dedicated Luton police office called Steven Mead who was diagnosed with adult lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2007. Since that time team “Le Mead” has organised events each year to raise money and awareness for the Leukaemia Research Fund.
This year team “Le Mead” has organised many events including a Golf Tournament, Cake Sale, 24 hour Dart-A-thon, and a cycle challenge not for the weak-hearted.
