Nick Caplin, the company's head of communications for Europe, said: "We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network".
Access to the network was suspended Wednesday 20th April. Sony believes the information taken effects some 77 million gamers using the network and the information contains:
- Name
- Address (city, state/province, zip or postal code)
- Country
- E-mail address
- Date of birth
- PlayStation Network/Qriocity login and passwords
- Handle/PSN online ID
It is also possible that profile data, including purchase history and billing address may have been obtained. All Sony Gamers used be careful and look out for any attempted telephone and/or e-mail scams.
