Master DNS

Prolateral offers primary and backup domain (DNS) services, with servers in key geographic locations providing the best service possible.

Setting up Master DNS

To use the Master DNS service for your domain you need to make a simple change to the nameserver settings for your domain.

If you've transfered a domain or purchased a new domain with us (Prolateral) then you don't need MasterDNS as you already have it.

If your domain is registered with another domain service provider then you need to log into their management portal and change the "nameserver" records to point at dns-engine.com

Before you start its always wise to make a note of the nameservers you already have in case you need to go back to them for whatever reason.

In order to use Master DNS you need to set your nameserver records to the below.

ns1.dns-engine.com

ns2.dns-engine.com

ns3.dns-engine.com

ns4.dns-engine.com

ns5.dns-engine.com

Note

Please use the server name information that is sent to you in your welcome email when you sign up for the service or you can find this information in the management portal.

Removing and Uninstall

If you no longer wish to use masterDNS then the removal is straight forward.

You will need to modify the NS records for your domain name and remove/delete the records that exists for masterDNS, these will be nameservers like nsX.dns-engine.com.

If you're not sure of what NS records to remove then please speak to your IT support team or contact us.

Note:

  • If masterDNS are your only NS records for that domain then you will need to add NS records for whoever is hosting your domain name.
  • Ensure you have a copy of all the DNS records we are serving for that domain name.  Once you cancel the service there is no way to retreive the zone records.
