Continuing our series on security predictions for 2010 and how to help you stay ahead of the game. Today we look at fraud by social networking.
Facebook celebrated having 350 million users around the world using their social networking site. With such unprecedented growth this year and the ever increasing popularity of social networking sites 2010 will see further growth.
With increased popularity comes increased risk from fraudsters trying to leverage those sites to their advantage.
With the competition in social networking site being very high the site owners are opening their sites to third party developers. Our prediction for 2010 is that attackers will use these open APIs and browser plug-ins to exploit vulnerabilities to their gain.
It is encouraging that social networking sites are extremely committed to adding more proactive measures to protect their users. On Wednesday 2nd December 2009 the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg announced plans to further enhance the security and permissions in Facebook. Users should always beware of installation applications and of incoming messages that seem curious or are unexpected.
