How do I set up outbound SMTP using AppDynamics?
How do I use outMail with AppDynamics?

Solution

In this article we discuss using outMail as the outbound email server for AppDynamics.  AppDynamics is an Application Performance Managament (APM) platform developed by Cisco.  We assume already you have a working AppDynamics set up and you are looking at configuring the SMTP Server settings to use outMail.

Configure an SMTP server

  1. Log into the Controller UI

  2. From the top navigation menu bar, click Alert & Respond > Email/ SMS Configuration.

  3. Check the box to enable "Email Email /SMS Notifications"

  4. In the field "SMTP Host" enter the outMail server name you were provided in your welcome email (mxXXXXXX.smtp-engine.com)

  5. In the field "SMTP Port" enter the default SMTP port of 25 (or alternative ports if required)

  6. Use Secure Connection can be set to you desired level of security.

  7. Enable the check box "Use Secure Authentication"

  8. In the Authentication section, set required to yes and enter the outMail username & password to which you were provided in your welcome email.

  9. Customize sender address in notifications emails in the From Address field. By default, emails are sent by the root Controller user. 

  10. Test the configuration by sending an email.

  11. Save the settings
